Since i-Tree was first introduced in 2006, there has been great interest from the international community to apply the i-Tree tools outside the United States. Numerous i-Tree projects utilizing the Urban Forest Effects (UFORE) model have since been completed by municipal governments, universities, students and consultants in cities across the world including China, Italy, Canada, Spain, Chile, Russia and more

International i-Tree users are advised to use i-Tree Eco for urban forest assessment projects as i-Tree Streets, (STRATUM) is less adaptable for international applications.

Australian Eco adaptation

An Australian-compatible version of the i-Tree Eco application was introduced at the 2011 ISA Conference in Parramatta, Australia. Australian users in New South Wales and Victoria now have the same easy access and automated processing as Eco users in the U.S.

Australian pollution and weather data for NSW & Victoria have been integrated into the Eco application eliminating the need to acquire local pollution data. Therefore, Eco results can typically be processed in a few hours after data is submitted. Though Eco is fully functional, and many former limitations have been overcome, there are some considerations Australian users need to be aware of---namely the fact that tree-building energy interactions are based on US parameters.

Craig Hallam and Chris Spencer of Enspec Environment and Risk coordinated efforts with the i-Tree Development Team to collect species, location, environmental and economic data to retool i-Tree Eco for Australia. Thanks go to the Melbourne Urban Forests Accord Group and Arboriculture Australia who provided additional support and funding for the pilot project. Plans are in progress for further integration of additional Australian states.

International Eco Resources

We intend on utilizing the Eco International pages to compile and present information to help those outside the United States who are considering or are in the process of conducting i-Tree Eco projects. Please also visit the Resources-Archives section of the website for additional Eco resources
